About the Committee
Research shows that children learn better when their parents or carers get involved.
Broadshires Pre-school is a registered charity run by elected parent trustees to form a Committee. We have a vibrant and dedicated team of trustees from all backgrounds and differing skills and life experiences, who volunteer their time to ensure the Pre-School is run to the highest standard.
We rely on parents' involvement to support the Pre-School by joining the committee and without this, Broadshires wouldn't be able to operate. We hold regular meetings where we welcome new members. No prior experience is needed to join, inductions to each role will be given. Therefore, we welcome all support whether it's joining the committee or supporting our fundraising events.
The committee work together to adhere to the governing constitution and
all members of the parent committee have the responsibility to ensure that:
-
The setting meets all the legal requirements to operate as a childcare setting and a registered charity
-
The settings finances are established and maintained and continues to be sustainable
-
They are the employers of the staff, but are not responsible for the day to day running of the setting
-
Confidentiality is maintained at all times
All members of the committee are jointly responsible for the management decisions and financial operations. This also includes maintaining policies, recruitment and staff appraisals, whilst working closely alongside the supervisor and staff. We support the staff with their professional development by ensuring all policies are up to date and their training is current so as to provide the best knowledge and highest standards of care for the children at Broadshires. Members of the committee are elected at our Annual General Meeting only after they have had a DBS check and gained an EY2 from Ofsted.
There are three main roles within the committee that are vital: a Chair, a Treasurer and a Secretary. All other contributions and delegated roles within the committee are of equal importance to ensure Broadshires is running effectively, no contribution is too big or too small. If you feel you would like to give back to our wonderful pre-school and invest in your child’s learning journey, please do contact us.

Fundraising
Because we are a charity, the fees we receive only cover our overheads, which is why fundraising makes all the difference and is vital to supplement our Pre-School. Throughout the year we run significant events where we raise money for new equipment and toys, extra activities, replace furniture and purchase new resources. We rely on the generosity and goodwill of our parents and local community to support our fundraising events.
Broadshires raised a total of £1298.21 from September 2022 to July 2023. We were able to purchase new resources including a water play table, a light sensory table, a sports rack and a new reading arch. Every penny raised goes directly to the children's learning environment and journey.
How can you get involved?
We have introduced a voluntary contribution of £5 per full term to help with the costs of sundries. This allows Broadshires to enrich the children's learning journey, by providing opportunities such as baking, growing vegetables and enjoying seasonal activities. A reminder will be sent out at the start of a new term.
You could join our parent committee where our fundraising event ideas are formed and implemented. Or if you just have some great ideas, do speak to a member of the committee, a member of staff or email chair@broadshires-preschool.org.uk
